Malta Airport Transport
When
arriving in Malta, there are various options to go from the airport
to your first destination or your booked hotel. If you have booked a
tour, your package probably already includes Malta airport transport
services. If you are visiting the islands on your own, here are the
Malta airport transport options available for you:
Taxi
In the Malta Airport, taxi service can be availed of 24 hours a day,
7 days a week to any destination in Malta. These taxi services have
fixed rates. There are pre-paid tickets that can be purchased in the
Arrivals area of the airport. There are even taxi tours available
from the airport with fees that are fairly reasonable. Note though
that these taxis are not regulated by meter. Make sure that you
agree on the price first with the driver to avoid unnecessary
surprises.
Regular Public Transport
The most affordable Malta airport transport option is to take the
regular bus (bus #8). The bust goes from the Malta International
Airport and ends at the main Bus Terminus in the capital city of
Valletta. The bus passes through Ghaxaq, Gudja, Tal-Barrani, Marsa,
Paolo, Tarxien, Blata L-Bajda, Floriana, Bombi, with Valletta as
its last stop. It takes 30 minutes to get from the Airport to
Valletta and vice versa. The bus leaves every twenty minutes during
weekdays and every 30 minutes on weekends, and is available from 6AM
to 9PM (weekdays) / 10PM (weekends). Their schedules are usually
posted outside the waiting area.
Car
Rental
There are about six car rental companies that are available in the
Malta airport. Their rates are fairly uniform and you can check them
out at the Welcomer's Hall from the Airport. Bear in mind that you
may need to reserve cars in advance especially during the peak
summer seasons.
Shuttle Van
There are private companies which arrange shuttle vans to take you
to your hotel or your destination. You will need to book this
service in advance. They are generally convenient and relatively
cheaper than car rentals or taxis. You can check with your hotel if
they offer shuttle services. They usually come out cheaper than
booking shuttle vans from private shuttle companies.
Gozo-Airport Shuttle Bus
If you are staying at a hotel the island of Gozo, there are Malta
airport transport shuttles that can take you from the airport to the
sea passenger terminal. The sea passenger terminal is located in the
north-western tip of Malta in Cirkewwa, where you then take a
20-minute ferry ride that takes you to the island of Gozo. From the
Gozo sea terminal, you should arrange another transport service that
will take you to your hotel.
Malta is a relatively small place and getting from one place to the
next is convenient. Less than 30 minutes away from the center of
Malta, the Malta International Airport provides convenient options
for travellers to travel from the airport to their onward routes in
the island.
Choose from the different Malta airport transport options based on
your preferences and budget. It is best to book your transport early
to make sure your Malta holidays are as stress- and hassle-free as
possible.
