Malta Weather - What Makes Malta the Perfect Holiday Destination

With the lush and ambient climate of the Mediterranean, Malta weather is pleasant all throughout the year. This pleasant weather, aside from the very popular attractions in the islands and its beauty in itself, makes Malta a great destination for that ultimate holiday.

Malta weather is distinctly Mediterranean. As in many other Mediterranean islands, the weather patterns in Malta are influence strongly by the sea - with long, dry and hot summer days and short, mildly cool winters.

During the summer months, temperature in Malta can reach as high as 30 degrees centigrade as the hot sirocco winds from North Africa blow across the seas in Malta. It often becomes quite hot even in the sheltered areas. Mid-summer shine can be enjoyed for twelve hours each day with occasional sea breeze pleasantly taking the edge off the strong heat. During the peaks summer months, temperatures may be uncomfortable especially with young children, so make sure you load on lots of sun block and become protected.

Winter months in Malta are subtly mild, with its temperatures not reaching below 15 degrees centigrade. In these cold months, sunshine can still be enjoyed 5 to 6 hours a day. A few people still pick up some nice tan during these cool winter months even without the usual heat. Snow does not fall in Malta, although strong winds from central Europe may bring chilly spells.

The annual average rainfall for Malta weather is only 58cm. This means that rainfall does not unnecessarily pour in Malta. Although rains are usually heaviest between November and February, rainfall is rarely ever a major concern. There is a short sea stretch from the northern part of Africa so that very little moisture is brought to the islands. Even if the average rainfall is relatively low, it is still enough to suffice the needs of the islands. Thunderstorms occasionally happen from September to February. Rainfall is rare during the summer months so the landscape may expectedly be parched as you stroll along Malta's beautiful countryside.

The ideal Malta weather makes it ever popular as a vacation spot. Peak tourist season is usually between July and August (spring and autumn) where you can bask on the Mediterranean heat. If you want to avoid the crowd and the intense heat, you can visit between February to June. During these months, Malta weather is particularly warm yet very pleasant. Resorts have also not become too hectic and crowded. Hotels usually offer cheaper rates during these off peak months.

With Malta weather, it is not surprising why more and more people from all over visit Malta to enjoy its warm weather and to escape the long and oftentimes harsh winter season in the rest of Europe. With its perfect weather, historic sites, rich culture and heritage, impressive nightlife, Malta has fast grown to be one of the best, if not the best, Mediterranean destination today.
