Noon Gun Salut

'Malta World War II Story'
Harbour Cruise, Barraka Gardens, Saluting Battery,
Three Cities, Malta at War Museum & Fort Rinella

As this is a private tour the itinerary below can be customised to your specifications.

We start our tour with the Grand Harbour cruise, the ideal introduction to an era dominated by the British. Cruise around the two natural harbours on either side of Valletta – Marsamxett Harbour and the Grand Harbour. A detailed commentary will unfold the history of Valletta and the Three Cities connected with two Great sieges of 1565 and 1942 (WWII), as well as all the other places of interest including the historical forts, battlements and creeks which can only be admired from the sea. We continue to Barraka Gardens and the Saluting Battery where you will watch the noon day gun. The Saluting battery is located at Barraka Gardens overlooking the magnificent Grand Harbour. Here you will watch the saluting battery gun drill which is performed by soldiers in 19th century uniforms and listen to the fearsome roar from the original 24-pound British cannons which are fired at noon, reliving a years old tradition. Free time for lunch. In the afternoon our tour will take us across the harbour, to the Three Cities of Senglea, Vittoriosa and Cospicua. Here you will the Malta at War Museum which is dedicated to daily life in Malta during WWII. It comprises a large underground labyrinth hewn by hand into the live rock. It offered effective air raid shelter to some 500 besieged. Our final stop includes a visit to Fort Rinella. Built in 1878 by the British, Fort Rinella was built for the world's largest cannon - the Armstrong 100-ton gun and considered to be the most technology advanced war machine of its day. You will be taken on an excellent animated tour around the fort by personnel dressed as 19th century Victorian soldiers. At this stage our tour comes to an end and we make our way back to your hotel or cruise ship.
