Christianity has almost 2000 years of history in Malta. It was brought to the island by no one less than the Apostle Paul in 60 AD. Paul was being taken to Rome to be tried as a political rebel, but the ship was wrecked just of the coast during a very bad storm. The Maltese assisted the crew, St. Paul and others whom where onboard the wrecked ship, they looked after them, fed them and provided shelter for them until they could continue with their journey. According to local tradition, St. Paul preached the gospel of Christianity to the locals, whom at the time where under Roman rule. Even the Governor of the island Publius converted to Christianity and became Malta's first Bishop.

Our tour will take you from the point of the shipwreck which is located in St. Paul's Bay, along the route said to be taken by St. Paul where he preached, where he baptised the first Maltese at San Pawl Milqi Chapel (meaning "St. Paul Welcomed"), to the place where he rested. Paul stayed for several months in the town of Rabat, here we will visit the St. Paul's Grotto, the actual place where the saint is known to have stayed. You will also visit St. Paul's Church in Rabat which overlies the sacred grotto. Our next stop and a short stroll away from Rabat is the old city of Mdina. Mdina, known as Melita during this period was the capital of the island.
We will explore the old city, the quaint alleys and narrow streets, ancient buildings and admire the far reaching magnificent views form the high bastion walls. During our tour of Mdina we will also take a look at the beautiful cathedral which also dedicated to St. Paul and is believed to to stand on the site originally occupied by the residence of Publius, the Governor whom became the first Bishop of Malta.

St. Luke describes the circumstances of the shipwreck and St. Paul's in chapters 27 and 28 of the Acts of the Apostles.
