Do in Malta in the Winter Season
We all
know that Malta is an excellent summer destination. This is pretty
obvious with the crowd of tourists and visitors in the area during
the summer months. With its lively beaches and warm climate, you
know exactly what to do in Malta during the summer season.
If you want to shy away from the crowd in the summer, visiting Malta
in the relatively cooler months of spring, autumn and winter will be
a good idea. Better yet, most accommodations and tours in Malta are
cheapest in the winter, so why not go there in the winter months.
Following this suggestion, here are some tips on what to do in Malta
during winter:
Visit the historical places
Winter in Malta is relatively mild. It is mild enough that you can
walk atound the amazing monuments and old villages enjoying the cold
breeze. The prehistoric temples, such as that of Hagar Qim and
Mnajdra in in Qrendi, the Tarxien and the Ggantija in Gozo are worth
a visit.
Visit the island attractions
In mainland Malta, you can visit the villages of Valletta, Mdina and
Rabat. You can walk around the area and enjoy the historical
structures and buildings that set it apart from the rest of Malta.
Some of the sites to see in Valletta are the Grandmaster's Palace,
St. John's Cathedral, the Manoel Theater, the Auberge de Castille,
and the National Museum of Archaeology.
Visiting the old capital city of Mdina should also be on the top of
your what to do in Malta list. Walk the streets of this peaceful
city and feel as if you are walking back in time in this fortified
village. Just outside of Mdina is the village of Rabat which is a
haven of archeological relics. In Rabat, check out the Domus Roman
and St. Paul's catacombs, the largest group of catacombs in Malta.
Go shopping
While in Valletta, do not forget to walk their commercial street
centers. There are a wide number of interesting things to buy. Malta
is known for its excellent blown glass, wool, handmade lace, and
copper and brass items.
Wine and dine
Malta has a wide variety of dining and restaurant options ranging
from European to Oriental. During the cold winter months, visiting
wine bars is a must. They present welcoming, warm atmosphere that
reflects the hospitality of the locals.
Theater and Entertainment
If you feel like you are running out of things to do in Malta, try
out their local entertainment and theater. It is an exciting
experience even for those who do not love the threater. Better yet,
indulge yourself in the nightlife entertainment in Malta which
includes jazz nights, clubbing and lots of dancing. If you are
bringing your children, bring them to the Popeye Village in Mellieha
where kids can have fun with Popeye and so much more.
With or without the summer heat, there is still so much to do in
